Kids’ Chance of Michigan
H&L supports the Michigan Chapter of Kids’ Chance of America, a national organization that is dedicated to helping Michigan kids with college or vocational education assistance because a parent has been killed or catastrophically injured in a work-related accident. The firm is proud to support this noble cause!
Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency
H&L is so glad to be able to help people like those at Wayne Metro, who provide an invaluable service to their community on a daily basis. Most recently, H&L gave a donation to Wayne Metro’s MasquerAid Ball, which is an important fund raising effort that will allow Wayne Metro’s work in the community to continue.
Peckam
Peckham is a Lansing-based non-profit that provides a wide range of opportunities to maximize human potential for persons striving for independence and self-sufficiency. Within that mission, one of their main goals is to find employment for individuals with barriers to employment or developmental delays, either in-house or elsewhere. Peckham is also unique in that they have several different business lines, including agriculture, manufacturing, and customer support. H&L has for many years recognized the importance of Peckham’s work, and we are committed to doing whatever we can to help them.
Hurley Foundation & Hurley Children’s Hospital
Flint would not be the same without Hurley Hospital. That is why H&L regularly donates to both the Hurley Foundation and the Hurley Children’s Hospital. We also participate every year in the Children’s Hospital Radiothon to help raise money for the hospital. The men and women at Hurley do a fantastic job and the care they provide their patients is invaluable to those individuals specifically, and the community as a whole.
Peckham Ability Tour
Peckham’s Ability Tour has grown into one of Michigan’s premier cycling events. Each year, bikers of all skill levels come together for a ride through Mid-Michigan’s gorgeous countryside. The proceeds of this event help Peckham fund other activities for individuals of all ability levels. Hanba & Lazar has supported and participated in the Ability Tour for years, and will continue to do so.
LAUP Golf Outing
Latin Americans United for Progress has been advocating for the needs of Latinos in the greater Holland area since 1974. Issues like housing, employment, immigration, human services, and education have been central to this mission. LAUP has also been fortunate enough to provide services to the community centering around college scholarships, ESL classes, computer instruction, GED preparation, and youth development programs.
Spectrum Human Services Golf Outing
Since 1976, Spectrum Human Services has dedicated it’s time and effort to strengthening children, families and communities across the state of Michigan. Each day, more than 1,450 people dealing with mental, physical, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges find help in a Spectrum program, including family preservation, foster care and adoption, independent and assisted living programs, short and long-term residential programs, and substance abuse prevention and treatment services.
Holt Community Fund
SEach year, the Holt Community Fund raises money in hopes of affecting the community in a positive way. As part of that overall mission, a yearly golf outing is held to benefit a scholarship fund that provides direct assistance to local students as they progress through college. Every dollar counts when it comes to helping young men and women as they better themselves through education.
Adam D. Nevells Memorial Fund
Adam D. Nevells was only 17 years old when he was killed in a motor vehicle collision in 2009. A fund was then set up in his name, with the purpose of awarding scholarships to students that excelled and participated in the things Adam enjoyed most – athletics, music, Boy Scouts, and his church. In just a few short years, this fund has given dozens of individual grants worth tens of thousands of dollars, and we hope that Hanba & Lazar’s contribution to this fund will help those numbers continue to grow.
York Cares
In 2017, York RSG set up a Catastrophic Hardships Fund. Hanba & Lazar was pleased to make a donation and help get this fund off the ground; not just because we have a fantastic relationship with York, but because we know that this fund was created with the specific goal of helping people through difficult circumstances that they might not have been fully prepared for. Now that the fund is operating and fulfilling it’s mission, we are so glad we had the chance to play a part in that success from the very beginning.
Edrin’s Story
In June of 2016, when Edrin was only four years old, he was taken to the Emergency Department closest to his home in Saginaw, Michigan. Doctors initially thought he may have suffered torn tissue as the result of a bowel movement. Imagine how shocked his mom was when blood work revealed that Edrin had leukemia.
The family chose Hurley Children’s Hospital in Flint for all of Edrin’s treatment and care. They had heard good things about Hurley’s work with young cancer patients, and are grateful that they made this decision. The doctors and nurses have been amazing and the Child Life Specialists have made a world of difference.
Today, Edrin is in remission, is back in school, enjoys playing basketball, and is living life to the fullest! He has appointments at the Chemo Clinic every other week for either lab work or chemotherapy, and he will continue to undergo follow up checks at Hurley for another year.
Edrin’s mom Treasa said “We are grateful that we’re at Hurley. When you feel the love, you stay. You know you’re in the right place.” Hanba & Lazar has a long-standing relationship with Hurley, and when we heard that Edrin is a big fan of The University of Michigan football team, we sent him tickets for the 2019 season opener versus Middle Tennessee State. Hanba & Lazar: thanks for creating an amazing memory for Edrin!
